Proposed interstate would link Phoenix to Las Vegas

GasBuddy Blog -- A plan to link Phoenix to Las Vegas with an interstate highway is being considered right now by transportation leaders in both Nevada and Arizona.

The Interstate 11 proposal is undergoing a two year, $2.5 million study to examine proposed routes, the feasibility of the project and the potential benefits, according to CBS5 out of Phoenix.

The interstate could be constructed by adding lanes and safety features to current roadways, but a firm route has not been identified. It is unlikely that decision would come any time soon.

Because of the lack of funding, no options are being ruled out, including establishing the new link between Phoenix and Las Vegas as a toll road. Tourism leaders in Las Vegas tell CBS 5 that...

lol HI-Guy. You're so right. Haven't apparently driven Houston to El Paso either. It's another terribly boring drive (except, that is already an interstate).

DrCashFlow, obviously you've never been out here and had need to travel between these two Southwestern cities. If you had to drive the present route, you'd be singing a different tune.

If they make it a toll road - it had better be a one way toll going to Vegas - everybody knows everything stays in Vegas

You don't need $2.5 million, it is needed, it would be used and it should go on the route everybody already takes (Hwy 93).

If Las Vegas wants the traffic, let the casinos pay for the interstate.

I wonder who sells the toll road thing?

If it is private money that is investing in it, I understand.

Public tax payer money is a different thing.

The interstate highway system was built along routes to move the military. I wonder what value is the link between Phoenix to Las Vegas? If there was any military value it would have been built by now. They can build a tollroad using bonds that way the tax payer is not on the hook for more money.

Privatize and things get moving but if it's privately built funded by tolls can a speed limit be enforced by government officials?

Is it considered a private road then?
