ExxonMobil unveils first Nitrogen Recovery Unit in Texas at Hawkins facility [Tyler Morning Telegrap

Tyler Morning Telegraph -- ExxonMobil Production Co. unveiled Wednesday its new Nitrogen Recovery Unit at its Hawkins Gas Plant -- the first of its kind in Texas and one of only a few in the country.
"We're very proud of this plant," said Drew Bishop, operations superintendent for the U.S. Central Region for ExxonMobil Corp.
Bishop, of Houston, said the work done over the last two years will extend the Hawkins Field's life by about 25 years. It also upgraded the plant, making it more modern and reliable, and reduced its carbon footprint.
He said new technology was used to convert something of little value into something that will benefit Texas.
The new facilities will recover an additional 40 million barrels of oil equivalent, an amount equal to the energy needs of more than 1 million

Amoco and Chevron used this at Anschutz Ranch in Wyoming in 1982. Exxon is 30 years behind the times.

@Jeff, go take a chemistry class before you demonstrate your lack of knowledge about the uses of nitrogen. It's one of the most important fertilizers and half the reason soybeans are planted are for their nitrogen fixing capabilities. It's a heck of a lot more efficient to recover it than to process it from the air. That's just the beginning...

why would need to recover nitrogen. it's 70% of the air around us. it sounds like that stupid shell nitrogen enriched gas ad. nitrogen is an inert gas it doesn't support or decline combustion

ExxonMobil nor any other oil company pays for anything. We the people that are getting screwed at the pumps are paying for everything.

And, how come the other oil refineries aren't doing the same thing? Has to be a good reason, don't you think?

I guess someone finally noticed that there is 4 times as much nitrogen as oxygen in the air we breathe.
